We spent the morning watercoloring, playing with playdough, drawing on the mirror with special crayons, and listening to a read aloud of the Squish book Autumn brought in last week. We talked about what kind of “squish” we prefer. Some of us like hugs, some like fist bumps, and some like double rainbow hellos :) We’re learning that everyone has their own special “squish” and that it’s important to ask permission before we give a hug or kiss.

In the bird sanctuary we had lots of fun searching for long branches to build a bridge from the sycamore tree all the way to the ground. It was hard work dragging the branches and helping to lift them into place. When it was finally finished, we took turns climbing up into the tree and sliding or walking down the bridge. We couldn’t get enough!

We also found lots of ice int he pond! We poked at it with sticks, but it was too hard for us to break. We really wanted to know how the ice got there in the first place.

Right as we were wrapping up lunch, we saw the Bird Man walking toward us. We were SO excited and immediately started waving and smiling. He told us that he was searching for a winter wren and we felt inspired to help. So we grabbed our binoculars and bird book and set out on an adventure. When we stumbled upon a little pine forest, we decided that we actually wanted to search for a Great Horned Owl instead. We hooted and waited and listened and looked with the binoculars, but didn’t find an owl. Instead we found a pine-phone (get it?) and pretended to call our friends :)

After rest, we headed out back to build a fire. We all remembered that the tinder goes down first and then the kindling and then the firewood. It took several tries to light the matches because it was windy, but we eventually got the fire going. We wanted to sit on Ty and Sandy’s red chairs today, so we pulled them out and all sat around singing songs. We sang the alphabet song, Twinkle Twinkle, the spaghetti and meatball song, the good morning song, and so many more! We took turns holding and playing the ukulele to accompany each song :)
