We had a blast at the Botanical Garden today!! We were captivated by all of the statues and were convinced that they were “people who got turned to stone.” We were also wondering why so many of the statues are naked :)
We got to lead the way through the garden and took every little meandering path we could find. One path took us to a wooded area with a big circular table and two giant chairs. We decided that this was the perfect spot to eat snack and listen to a story.
A different path, a while later, took us down a hillside and around a bend to a little cob house with circular windows. We played a game where we pretended to be stuck outside in the cold and then someone would open the door and let us into the warm house. We pretended smooth stones were keys to lock and unlock the door.
Feeding the koi fish was a huge highlight. We watched them swim around for a very long time – always keeping an eye out for Birthday Cake the fish.
We ate lunch over by a beautiful creek and enjoyed listening to the babbling water. We felt grateful for the sunshine and for our food :) Jumping from rock to rock was so much fun!
We ended our day at the George Washington Carver monument, where we learned a bit about his life. We learned that he was Black, born in Missouri, an important inventor, a scientist, a professor, and that he taught people how to take care of the soil by planting new crops (not just cotton). We learned that his nickname was “the plant doctor.” We liked hugging his legs and pretending to be “seeds” in the nearby flower pots.
