We began our morning with some spring planting. Sylvie and Autumn had quite a lot of fun digging holes with a trowel and gently firming in pea starts. Meanwhile, Rigel and Ridley connected lots of new PVC pipes with fittings to create an “obstacle course for the water.”

In the park, we marveled at the gorgeous colors. We thought the blankets of white spring beauty flowers looked like snow on the grass :) When we reached the cypress grove, we got right to work drilling holes in logs. We created a system so that everyone would have a turn and sat for at least an hour, passing the drill around the circle. We decided that the little holes we created were going to be insect homes.

We ate lunch beneath the cherry trees while Deidre used puppets to act out a story about a turtle who told all the animals of the forest that spring was coming. As soon as we finished eating, we created our own amazing stories. One story was about a turtle who got stuck on his back. Luckily, rabbit and fox heard turtle calling out and helped him flip back over. Then they all decided to live next door to one another and become neighbors :)

On our walk back to school, we tossed lots of flowers into the air and pretended we were getting married. We also found a couple flower tunnels that were pretty magical!

After rest, we headed back outside to play with water at the mud kitchen. We had a blast engineering different waterways with the PVC pipes and collecting the water in a small pot. When the pot overflowed, we yelled, “VOLCANO!”

We can’t wait to do it all again tomorrow!
