We had so much fun splashing in puddles today and trying to get Deidre wet!
A while later, once we were soaked from splashing in every last puddle, we courageously crossed the creek and took turns leading the way through the tall grasses. On our walk, we discovered lots of young spring plants beginning to fill in the mud pathway. Using our plant ID app, we learned that one of the plants was wild bergamot (bee balm) and that its leaves are edible. We thought it tasted minty. We also learned that the Wahzhazhe (Osage nation) used (and possibly still use) the leaves of wild bergamot to make tea to help them heal from colds.
Aside from lots of baby plants, we also found ducks on our walk! We excitedly tried to get close to them by chasing them up and down the creek, but they were way too fast for us. It was a fun game nonetheless!
Once we reached the Secret Bridge, we pretended long sticks were fishing poles and leaves were fish. We fished for a long time before deciding it was time to head back to school to eat lunch.
After rest, we played with trains. Rigel asked Sylvie if her train was “brimming with coal” :)
Then, we played a game of Go Fish and Ryan even joined us for the last couple of rounds. We’re learning how to hold several cards without showing them to the other players, how to use descriptive language to describe the different fish cards we are wanting to match, how to take turns, and how to listen/remember who has the cards we need. We’re definitely getting the hang of it and are looking forward to playing with Ridley and Autumn on Monday!
