Wowee was it sticky today, but we handled it well and enjoyed playing in the shade. We thanked the trees and leaves many times today for making a “tree umbrella” and keeping us cool. When we found ourselves in a sunny spot, we had fun pretending to melt and shouting, “Oh no!”.
In the park, we climbed again — this time showing Ridley how to get up into the tree. “You hold on here and then puuullll yourself up like this!”. We also found a cicada molt and talked about how cicadas shed their exoskeleton just like snakes shed their skin. We had lots of questions about where the cicada went and if it was still alive :)
We also found a praying mantis over in the cypress grove! Some of us held it in our hand and let it crawl up our arm. It was so tickly! After holding it, we followed it for a long while, hoping it would lead us to its home. Then, it started to climb a tree. It climbed so high up we couldn’t see it anymore! We think it must live on a tree branch.
Rigel and Ridley found long sticks and decided to have a “sword fight” — being very cautious about safety. “Don’t swing it too fast or it could hurt our skin!”. We’ve been talking a lot about how sticks need space. When we want to swing them around, we move far away from our friends so that nobody gets an accidental poke.
We ended our day with more laundry-folding before heading out back for pawpaw popsicles and a dip in the pool. Yum! Our pops were delicious. We hope more pawpaw fruits fall to the the ground soon so that we can make more treats!
