We spent the morning exploring the many new materials in the classroom. One of our favorites was the cork board number game. First, you roll the number dice and then find the corresponding number on the cork board. Finally, you stick thumbtacks into the board, following the curved and straight lines of the numbers.
For snack, we used two new kid-friendly peelers to peel carrots from the garden. We loved peeling so much that we almost peeled away the entire carrot before eating it :) We also munched on lunchbox peppers and asian pears from the backyard.
Before heading to the park, we checked beneath the pawpaw tree and found six ripe pawpaws on the ground!! We were very excited because that means more pawpaw popsicles!
In the park, we added more features to our obstacle course. The new red squares tell us to walk and the sun tells us to shout “Hooray!”. Autumn added more “water” to the tiptoe section and Ridley added a bunch of squiggles, which tell us to make a silly face. Sylvie worked for a long time to create a fun shape that represented ALL of the “obstacle course things”. So, when you land there, you have to jump, clap, twirl, shout, dance…and the list goes on.
Over in the pine forest, we discovered a large branch. We loved the challenge of rolling it back and forth. It was heavy and pushing it was hard work! We also used markers and a big coloring pad to create homes and obstacle courses for our animal figurines. Rigel said his favorite home was beneath the sheet hanging off the end of a pine tree branch.
Back in the classroom, we noticed lots of pine needles on the floor. We think they must have fallen out of our shoes. Sylvie and Ridley worked together to sweep up the mess :) Using the mini dustpan and broom is another one of our favorite activities!
After rest, we each took turns letting Deidre measure us and then practiced writing our name and/or the number representing how many inches tall we are. We really enjoyed the experience and asked if we could do it again tomorrow. Do you think we’ll grow overnight? We also had fun learning a new screen printing technique! Rolling the roller in paint was the best part! Oh, and seeing our image magically transfer onto our paper!
To end our day together we played some number games as well as “doggy doggy where’s your ball”. We laughed a lot!
