Rigel spent the morning counting out loose parts to squish into the playdough mushroom caps. We have all been enjoying numbers lately and look for any opportunity to count — whether it be the pages in the book we’re reading or the number of chicken eggs we find in the coop. Speaking of eggs…today we found five of them! Sylvie helped us figure out that she and Rigel could each take home two eggs, because fair is fair, and one would be left at school for a future baking project.

We decided to explore the park on foot today since it was just the two of us and Deidre. We were intrigued by all the tire tracks in the snow and had fun following them for a long time to see where they might lead. One set of tracks led us to the pine forest over by the Stone Shelter. The pine forest was the perfect place to eat lunch because there was shade and a dry place to sit. While we ate, we watched a handful of squirrels emerge from a hollow tree and bathe in the sun. “Maybe that hole leads inside the tree to other rooms. Because there wouldn’t be just one room in the family home!” :) :) :)

After lunch, we thoroughly enjoyed building two mountains, complete with trees, a bridge, alligators and bunnies. We had a great time imagining that the snow bunnies had to be very careful on the bridge so that the alligators below wouldn’t eat them.

On our walk back to school, we found another track. We instructed Deidre to follow the lines we were making in the snow with our sticks. “I’m making these lines so that you know how to get back to school.” Then, once we reached the plowed road, we played a new game called “kick the snowball” all the way to Arsenal.

After rest, we built a fire in the backyard, decorated the snow with liquid watercolors, and made maple pops! While we sat around the fire, we sang a new song:
Fire, fire burning bright
Dancing flames of shining light
We circle round when it is cold
To share your warmth & heart of gold

We missed our friends again today and sent them giant hugs and kisses during our Good Morning Circle.
