After reading Mix it Up yesterday, we were very excited to combine primary colors this morning with the goal of creating our unique shade of skin. Once we mixed the perfect shade, we painted a square of watercolor paper with that color. While the squares dried, we listened to a new story titled, All the Colors We Are. We learned about melanin and how our parents’ skin color plays a big role in our skin color. We named our special shade of skin and thought about names for darker shades too (instead of just Black and White). We realized that all skin colors are shades of brown, with some being very dark, some very light, and everything in between.
Once our “skin squares” dried, Deidre traced our hands and cut them out. On Tuesday we get to decorate the hands! Autumn is excited to add nail polish to hers and Rigel wants to add a ring :)
In the park, we played under the fir trees. We practiced drawing the letter Y and shapes using sticks. Then we made our way over to the picnic tables. We love running on them and trying to jump from one table top to the next without falling though the cracks.
A while later, we had a blast climbing trees! We discovered this one tree with a built-in “gum ball slide” :) We were very focused while loading up the slide with gum balls that then shot out through the hole in the trunk. Such fun!
After rest, we took turns sewing beads onto burlap as part of our group art project. We’re really getting the hang of sewing and it’s very exciting. We also made more play dough cakes and enjoyed an exhilarating game of Snail Race. We all cheered loudly when the final snail crossed the finish line :) :)
We ended our day with yoga and a story about tracks in the snow. We’re very much looking forward to waking up in the morning to SNOW!
