This morning, we set out on a search for ice. The first place we found ice was in the alley. The second place was right at the entrance of the park. We loved looking at the gum balls, trapped beneath the frozen water. Our ice hunt eventually took us all the way over to the mounds, where we found SO many small “ice puddles” hiding in the shady crevices of the dirt piles.

Then, we found what we were really looking for — a “hoooge skating rink” complete with sheet ice to crush and solid ice to skate on :) We had a blast sliding around on the “slippedy” ice, falling, crawling, twirling, and then climbing the muddy mounds. By the time we got back to school, we were covered head to toe in mud and Deidre had to wipe us down in the kitchen!

Back in the classroom, we ate lunch while listening to a story about animals in the snow. We loved that the book featured real photographs of animals eating the carrot nose of a real snowperson. So silly! We noticed that the owl in the book didn’t have ears like the Great Horned Owl in the park. “It must be a different owl! But how will we know which one?” We are going to spend the next few weeks learning about the owls that live in Missouri and we couldn’t be more excited.

After lunch, we had a bit of time to work on our handmade books and fill our alphabet board with small, polished stones.

We ended the day with playdough-making! Each of us wanted to make a different color playdough, so we divided the dough into three balls and squeezed in our color of choice. After lots of hard work kneading the dough, we ended up with pink, dark blue and light blue. Then, we brought our warm dough down to the art table for some creative fun.

At the very very end of the day, we had a dance party with our new puppets, gave lots of hugs, and enjoyed some partner games. One of the games requires the partners to match the different sounds they hear in each cylinder and the other requires each person to use their sense of touch to pull the same object from the mystery bag.
Sylvie: Can you find the ball?
Rigel: That’s not a ball, it’s a FEAR (aka sphere)!
Sylvie: Oh, can you find the fear?
:) :) :)

So glad to have everyone back!
