Our discovery of tracks in the mud yesterday led to lots of conversation about animal tracks today. We pulled out our “track cards” for a fun game of match the track to the animal. Ridley thinks that deer tracks look like broken hearts.

We also had fun using water on a paintbrush to erase chalk letters from the easel before all sitting around the art table to make fun playdough creations.

In the park, we made our way over to the OG climbing tree and got right to climbing. We pretended the various branches were bedrooms and that the V in the trunk was a meeting spot. Then, we made an obstacle course complete with shapes, a gratitude sun, a walking line, the zig zag zone (Rigel named that one!), and number bubbles.

A while later, we wandered over to the giant sycamore and had a blast bouncing each other on the low branch. On our walk back to school, we stopped by the bridge to see if the water in the moat was frozen. To our surprise, it wasn’t! Nonetheless, we had fun jumping across the moat and cheering our friends on.

As we neared school, we noticed that the “park people” removed the plum bushes and replaced them with a forest of baby trees. We named the various types of evergreens: spruce, pine, fir…and then hugged each tree :) “This pine is going to grow huge like the pine where the great horned owl lives!” We talked about how trees start out small just like babies, and then they grow and grow and grow.
Rigel named each tree before we continued on our way. Most of them were named Thomas.

After rest, we got to help Deidre select books from the library. It was so exciting! Rigel chose lots of books about trains, Autumn chose books about snowpeople and dancers, and Ridley chose books about fruit bats. Then, we thought about the kinds of books Sylvie might enjoy… “Sylvie loves art!” So, we picked out a handful of art books too :)

We ended our day with games, stories and dancing.
Sending Sylvie a big hug and hoping to see her tomorrow!
