Another gorgeous day spent in nature!

This morning we bumped into our neighbors, Adam and Colette, while heading to the climbing tree. Colette is almost three and we had so much fun showing her our obstacle course from yesterday and teaching her how to write the letter C. Her dog, Winston, is small and cute and can do lots of tricks. Our favorite trick is when he balances a treat on his nose before eating it :)

After a long lunch in the pine forest with our owl friend, we took our shoes off and explored the creek. We decided to collect more witch hazel flowers to make another sun catcher. “Little Witch Hazel whispered that we can take a few more of her flowers, but not too many because the night moths need to drink some nectar.”

Then, we found more milkweed pods filled with white fluff. We had fun blowing the seeds into Deidre’s hair and floating the little boats in the water. We used long sticks to help “save” boats that got stuck. Mostly we enjoyed the calm and quiet of the outdoors and the sunshine on our skin.

We ended our time in the park with more Little Witch Hazel stories. We just can’t get enough :)

After rest, we gathered our tools and walked across the street to tap the sugar maple tree. Sylvie drilled the hole, Ridley cleaned out the hole, and Autumn hammered in the spile. We were SO excited when the sap started dripping out!! We took turns letting the sap drip into our mouths. “It tastes like sweet water!” Then, we all worked together to hang the bucket on the hook. We can’t wait to see how much sap is in the bucket tomorrow!

We ended our day by watering the pea seeds and looking at our owl book that arrived in the mail while we were out front. We can’t believe we’re authors and illustrators :)
