We spent the morning making candle holders out of clay. We loved squishing the wet clay between our fingers as well as choosing gems & glass shapes to push into the walls of our creations. We are so excited for the candle holders to dry so we can take them home and put real candles in them :) “I’m going to use mine for a special holiday!” “We light candles on Friday at my house, so I can use it then.”

In the park, we stopped for a long time to watch the tree trimmers. Today, they were cutting down a giant tree trunk, piece by piece. We cheered each time a chunk of the trunk fell to the ground.

Once the tree was cut all the way down to the ground, we walked over to the cypress grove. We immediately found Inchy and began building him a “chalk home” complete with stairs, bedrooms and a kitchen. The home was drawn onto the side of a cypress tree :) Autumn retrieved the bird book and read aloud all of the things we needed to know about Inchy’s home.

After rest, we made orange play dough! We decided to make orange because it’s the color of pumpkins. Kneading the warm dough was one of our favorite parts. Ridley said he could “feel the hot water” in the dough. When the play dough was ready to go, we brought it down to the classroom and formed it into pumpkins, hedgehogs, snakes and so many other critters! Autumn and Sylvie had fun playing a game where one person would close their eyes while the other person created something out of dough. Then, they’d open their eyes and say, “Oh my gosh!”

A bit later, we helped decide the order for hanging our spin art. We think it looks really pretty and are excited to add more squares in the coming weeks.

We sent Rigel a big hug and blew him a kiss during our morning circle. We missed him these past two days and hope he’s back on Monday!!
