We were surprised to find that our chalk obstacle course had washed away in the storm last night and got to work creating a new one. Sylvie drew a watering can that splashes you when you jump on it. Autumn added some large squiggles that you have to jump over. Rigel drew the longest line we’ve ever seen for running along. The best part was that Ridley showed up just as we were adding the final touches and joined in the fun. We LOVE obstacle courses :)
In the cypress grove, we hid out in our cave — snuggling under a blanket because it was chilly and tending to our inch worms. We used Deidre’s scarf to make a door and Autumn was in charge of letting people in and out. We liked pretending to knock and then asking, “Can I come in?”
We noticed that some of the hollow cypress knees were filled with water from the rain. They became the perfect little pools for our animal friends to play. Rigel and Ridley gave their elephants a bath!
A bit later, we decided we wanted to go visit Moonshine and Sheffield. To get there, we needed to cross the logs, but the water was really high today, which always makes crossing feel a bit scarier. We cheered each friend on as they maneuvered across — “You can do it! You can do it!”
On our way to visit the horses, we spotted a very low hanging sweet gum branch. It was perfect for swinging and climbing! We worked as a team to hold the branch low while another friend climbed up on top. Then, we used all our strength to make the tree limb go up and down. It was such a fun ride and we wanted to do it again and again!
The only thing that could have pulled us away from the “riding tree” was The Bird Man. We spotted him far off in the distance and raced over to the street calling, “Bird Man!” and waving our arms in the air. He came over and told us all about the birds he saw today: the oven bird and the black and white warbler. He likes to call the warbler a zebra bird, which we thought was hilarious. He even showed us pictures of those two birds. In return, we told him all about the time we tried to bake cookies in the sun oven, but the clouds kept covering up the sun :)
After rest, we created art, played a new math game, and learned how to do a backbend. We can’t wait to go back to the riding tree tomorrow!
