We began our morning by making fingerprint spiders and finding the letters that belong in our name. Rigel and Ridley discovered that both of their names begin with an R and then an I. How exciting!
In the park, we found that our cave had collapsed :( We were sad at first, but then realized that climbing on the pile of branches was just as much fun as playing inside the cave. We climbed all the way to the top in search of our friend, Inchy. Ridley stuck a sweet gumball to the end of a long stick and pretended it was a knife that could be used for cutting up various foods.
Once we grew tired of climbing, we decided to cross the log and visit the “riding tree.” We cheered our friends on as they crossed the creek and then ran as fast as we could to our new favorite tree. We took turns swinging on her low hanging branch and had to work as a team to figure out who would climb up and who would push the branch up and down. It was very challenging for us to work together at first and there were some tears, but we eventually sorted it out all on our own and created a system that everyone felt was fair. We were very proud of ourselves for solving the problem without the help of an adult.
Later in the day we enjoyed balancing on the stone bridge and hoping across the little stream. Autumn found a bright yellow golf ball in the water, which we used to play a new game. We’d roll the ball across the bridge and then everyone would run and try and and catch it. Whoever caught it would get to be the next person to roll the ball. It was so much fun!
After rest, we used the apple corer slicer dicer (haha!) to peel and core apples. Then we cut the rings into smaller pieces, tossed them into a saucepan, added a bit of water and lots of cinnamon, and cooked them on the stove. While they cooked, we read a favorite book from last year called Apple Cake. We also fed all of the apple scraps to the chickens and talked about how good the kitchen smelled. Finally, the applesauce was ready to eat. We mashed it up, divided it into four bowls and enjoyed every spoonful outside at the table :)
