Ridley and Sylvie enjoyed creating AB patterns this morning with our unifix cubes. We’ve also been very into making the “longest bridge in the world” with the cubes and then measuring it to see how many inches long it is. So far, the longest bridge was 31 inches!
In the park, we splashed in lots of puddles and then visited the bird sanctuary. We love climbing the sycamore tree, walking in the little pond in our rain boots, balancing on the logs and using the “vincoluars” to look for birds. We also had fun using scissors to cut pieces of colorful yarn and then wrapping the string around sticks.
Because the ground was so wet after the rain, we searched for a dry spot to eat lunch. We remembered that trees keep the ground pretty dry and so set up our lunch blanket beneath some pine trees :) While we ate lunch, we listened to a story about Mooncakes because today is the Chinese Moon Festival. We decided that we’d like to drink tea, just like in the story, when we wake up from rest to celebrate the harvest moon.
On our walk back to school, we found “the line” again and ran as fast as we could up and back, up and back :)
After rest, we practiced writing letters in our glitter sand tray. First, we shake the jar filled with letters and then we look for one we like and draw it into the sand. We also like to make designs in the sand, like spirals, lines and faces.
During snack, we worked together to try and remember everything we learned about the sun. Here’s what we came up with:
-The sun can cook food just like the time we made cookies in the sun oven
-Sometimes the sun hides behind clouds, and when it does it’s not so hot outside
-If you look at the sun, it can hurt your eyes
-The sun (and rain) make rainbows
-Suns make sunsets, like the tissue paper sunsets we made
-Suns make shadows. Remember when we traced animal shadows?
-The sun can dry clothes
-The sun makes puddles dry up
A bit later we made lanterns (inspired by the Chinese Moon Festival book) out of paper. We really liked the part where we got to use scissors to cut strips and the part where we got to use a stapler. Rigel says he is going to hang his lantern on a hook!
After lantern-making, we enjoyed pouring and sipping tea as well as building homes with blocks for our people figurines. We are hoping our grown-ups take us to get a mooncake today :)
