We spent the morning playing in the classroom, checking in on our monarch caterpillars, and extracting seeds with tweezers from dried sunflower heads. We helped fold little paper envelopes and then filled them with seeds to take home. We’re excited to plant them in own backyards next summer! Some of us were very inspired by the story, Sunflower House, and are looking forward to creating a similar house next year.

Before heading to the park, we shook out and hung our clean, wet clothes on a drying rack. We think the sun is going to dry our clothes just like in the book we read yesterday.

In the park, we extracted more sunflower seeds, folded more little envelopes, climbed the yew trees, chased floating milkweed seeds and listened to another story about the sun while we ate lunch. We saw a picture of a sundial in this story and are curious to know how sundials can tell time. “How can the sun keep time?!” Maybe we’ll make our own sundial next week and learn more about how it works.

On our walk back to school, we noticed that the stage and “line” (rubber mats holding down the electrical cords in the grass) were both gone! The good news was that the “line” was still there for us to run along, it just looked a bit different :)

After rest, Sylvie and Ridley created faces using natural materials. We’ve been very into making faces, having Deidre take pictures of the faces, and then having her print them out and frame them. We like to look at the pictures and try and recreate the various faces. Maybe we’ll make a book of all the faces in the coming weeks!

In the garden, we checked on our clothes and they were dry! We all helped take the clothes off the drying rack and put them into a big basket. Then, we checked on our sprouts. They have grown so much since we last checked!! We used scissors to cut the sprouts and then we ate them. They were yummy and some were a little spicy. We also played with and named the chickens. Their names are: Silky, Scarlette, Silvia, Birthday Cake and Fluffy Feet.

After singing our goodbye song and dancing around outside to the ukulele, we walked over to the Royale to harvest more grapes. “Mmmmmmmm these are SO good!”. We couldn’t eat them fast enough and want to go back to munch on more on Monday :)
