We spent the morning learning about the basic parts of the eyeball (sclera, iris, pupil, eyelashes) and then looking in the mirror and trying to draw our own.

In the park, we visited Robin’s nest again. Deidre lifted us up onto her shoulders so we could peek into the nest. Sadly, all four eggs were gone :( We definitely think a snake got to them!

In the Cypress Grove, we built a new bridge, searched for more nests and took our animal figurines on an adventure through the tall grasses. Then, we headed to the pine forest for lunch, endless swinging in the hammock and a game of tug-of-war.

On our way back to school, we found a dead squirrel. We used sticks to investigate and then sang “The Itsy Bitsy Squirrel” before continuing on our walk.
The Itsy Bitsy Squirrel
Climbed up the big oak tree
Down came the acorns
Falling onto me
Out came her family
To join in all the fun
And the Itsy Bitsy Squirrel
Ate acorns in the sun

After rest, we did some research about animals in the park that eat bird eggs. We were surprised to learn that squirrels, hawks, CATS!!, and snakes are the main egg snatchers. We drew pictures of these animals in the carport and practiced writing letters to label our drawings.

We ended our day by making violet lemonade with the violets we collected last week. We strained the violets from the blue water and then added in lemon, honey, and some maple sugar. It was delicious! Our favorite part was when the blue water magically changed to purple!
