Our morning began with quite a surprise…we discovered that our tobacco hornworm (aka caterpillar) had gone missing! We have so many ideas about what might have happened. “I think Cosmo the cat ate it and it’s died now.” “Maybe it turned into a big butterfly and flied up to the top.” “It’s probably in this hole here and we can’t see it.” “I bet it’s hiding behind all these pillows!”
Needless to say, we did not locate our caterpillar friend, but will keep searching :)
Before heading to the park, we each took turns painting a popsicle stick to use as a marker in the garden. Then, we planted microgreens in one of the raised beds in the backyard. We seeded amaranth, cilantro, peas, and sandwich sprouts. After we sprinkled the seeds on top of the soil and covered them lightly, we watered them in. We hope they sprout soon! We’re excited to take care of them and to see which one grows the fastest. We’re using our painted popsicle sticks to help us keep track of the different types of microgreens.
For snack, we munched on crab apples. They were small, like us, and fit perfectly in our hands. We thought they were juicy, sweet, sour, and delicious!
In the park we found a GIANT tree that had fallen over!! It was so much fun to climb on, but kinda scary to walk along. We were very brave and helped each other get up to the top. Sylvie made a spot on a different log for Ridley, which made him feel happy. We’ve been talking a lot about how we can show kindness to our friends, and today we realized that scooting over to make room for someone is another way of being kind. We are going to add that to our classroom poster to help us remember!
In the bird sanctuary, we splashed in the pond and pushed each other in the hammock. We also played our “bridge game” in the sycamore tree and Autumn learned that sliding down the trunk with a bare bum kinda hurts :-/
After rest, Sylvie volunteered to harvest three Asian pears for everyone to enjoy. Then, we all worked together to cut them into little pieces and arrange them on plates. They were so yummy!
