We spent the morning exploring some new loose parts and using the colorful wooden pieces to build a pretend garden.
”Why are you building a garden?”
”Because a garden grows food and then you don’t have to go to the grocery store.” :)
In the park, we were excited to see our friend Witch Hazel in bloom! We quickly noticed that her flowers matched Rigel’s pants and that they smelled like raspberries. We also observed that the Witch Hazel shrub grows very close to water. “She must get really thirsty and need to bend down and drink water all the time. “ We are excited to learn more about how Witch Hazel can be used as medicine to heal our bodies.
A bit further down the creek, we decided to collect lots of branches to build a bridge. Some of the branches were heavy and it was hard work dragging them across the field. When the bridge was finally complete, we had a blast crossing back and forth and saying, “This bridge is REALLy strong!”
Then, we found some piles of mud and thoroughly enjoyed the sensation of it squishing between our toes. We would run around in the mud, head to the creek to rinse our feat, and repeat.
When we got back to school, we collected the chicken eggs and held Silkie. Today there were three different colored eggs (light green, white, and brown), which means that three chickens are laying. This is SO exciting. We think the two chickens that haven’t laid yet are going to lay black and speckled eggs :) Deidre says we’ll have to wait and see.
Before rest, we helped prepare a foot bath to wash all that mud off. We poured warm water into two bins and then added lavender essential oil, rose water, and epsom salt. “This makes my feet feel so happy!” We loved the foot bath and want to do more of them.
After rest, set up our new Sprout Station and looked at photos of the what the sprouts will look like when they’re done growing. We decided to grow red cabbage, broccoli and radish sprouts. We loved setting up the grow station, watching the seeds closely and talking about how they might grow so tall that they turn into trees :) We’ll keep an eye on their growth this week and draw pictures of our observations each day. Stat tuned!
