Our morning was spent cutting up the jacket cover to our latest book, Little Witch Hazel. We then used the cutouts to make collages and add in our own details using marker, pencil and crayon. Sylvie drew a “secret door” that leads to Little Witch Hazel’s house.

Rigel and Ridley had fun counting with the number dice and abacus. Then, we all got very silly with the puppets and balance board :)

During snack, we saw Deidre pull out some small chalkboards from the literacy bin and asked her what they were. When she told us, we decided we wanted to try writing letters on the chalkboards right then and there. So we each got a chalkboard, chalk and erasure and a little label with our name on it. We practiced starting all of our letters at the top and enjoyed narrating as we wrote - “Big line down, little curve, little diagonal line.”

In the park, we spent time in the bird sanctuary and then followed Rigel down the mulched path, which led us to a new place to explore. We discovered lots of big branches that we used to play tug of war and also found some pretty great climbing trees. When it started to rain, we took shelter beneath some pine trees where it was dry. Once the rain passed, we headed back out in search of roly-polies and other bugs. We also found stump puffball mushrooms that release their spores when squeezed. We thought the spores looked like smoke :)

We ended our time together with a read aloud, dance party, and ball toss while sharing about our favorite parts of the day. Deidre’s favorite part of the day was that we’re all back together again!
