march 3
We spent the morning cutting out pictures from magazines and gluing them onto paper to create our own stories/illustrations.
In the park, Sylvie added to our obstacle course and we excitedly followed along. She added new squares filled with different letters and numbers and a long arrow that told us we had to run to the magnolia tree and back. We had a blast helping her come up with new ideas for the course — like a dinosaur that makes you ROAR when you land on it :)
After lots of running and jumping, we headed over to the pine forest for lunch. Deidre read us a new story that Ridley brought to share. We LOVED Tickly Octopus SO much that we asked to hear three times in a row!
Once we finished eating, we decided we wanted to run on top of the picnic tables. We made up a game called Shadow World where we could only walk/run where there were shadows. Then, we laughed our heads off as Rigel pretended to repeatedly fall off the tables and onto the grass.
After rest, we took turns ironing our new great horned owl patch onto our canvas bag. The owls represent all that we have learned about Great Horned Owls as well as the newfound connectedness we feel to them. We are constantly looking up into the tops of pines for our feathered friends and saying, “Shhh! Listen! Do you hear the owl?!”
At the end of the day, we checked our maple sap bucket. We noticed right away that there was much less sap in the bucket than there was yesterday. We learned that sap drips more slowly on cooler days and more quickly on warmer days. We hope there’s tons of sap waiting for us on Monday!
In the backyard, we used scissors to trim the radish sprouts from our Sprout Station. We couldn’t decide if they were spicy or not, but we each tried them and thought they were good nonetheless. Then, we watered the seedlings, decorated the front walkway with chalk, danced on the porch, hugged each other a lot, and mixed potions at the mud kitchen.
