We walked over to the Bird Sanctuary this morning and had fun fishing algae out of the pond. We also practiced balancing on logs and enjoyed listening for the call of the mourning doves (which we think sound a lot like owls).
A while later, we made our way to the yew bush, where we climbed very high, collected the yew’s tiny round seeds, and played the “chomp” game.
The best part of our day was when we spotted The Bird Man off in the distance. We raced over to him and hugged his legs :) He told us he had a surprise for us and so we all sat down together in the grass. The surprise was a photo of two different types of Missouri gulls. We talked about how to tell them apart (different colored legs and beaks…) and where they live. He even put a bird sticker on the backside of the photo, which was very exciting.
After we said goodbye to The Bird Man, we explored a little creek near the yew bush. We had a blast tromping through the muddy water and running as fast as we could through the knee-high leaves.
When we woke up from rest, we checked on the maple tree across the street and poured her sap into a glass jar. Ridley helped hold the filter in place and Rigel & Autumn carefully poured the sap.
We ended our day with lots of songs, more water play at the mud kitchen, and a walk to our neighbor Chris’ house to check on her bees. We’re soaking up all the sunny outdoor time we can get before this next cold snap comes in!
