This morning, Sylvie excitedly showed Autumn the dances moves she learned in her class the other night :) Together, they tumbled, somersaulted, jumped and laughed.
In the park, we adventured over to the bird sanctuary again — this time building a bridge of sticks across the water. We each lifted and moved lots of heavy branches over to the pond, eventually creating a bridge that was sturdy enough to cross! Before we left the bird sanctuary, we removed all of the branches from the water because we’re learning the importance of leaving a space just as we found it (if not better).
While we ate lunch, we listened to a story called Fletcher and the Falling Leaves. We closed our eyes and listened to the wind “whispering” and the leaves “dancing” just like in the book. After we finished eating, we went on a color hunt. We found lots of red and orange leaves, some yellow leaves, green fir needles and a few crunchy brown leaves. We loved searching for plants that matched our new color cards.
In the pine forest, we used hammers, shovels and giant tree cookies to make birthday cakes. We also spotted two owls perched up in the top of the pine trees. We really wanted to see their faces, but they were too high up!
After rest, we built tall towers with Deidre’s sister, danced to the ukulele, played the felt board monster game, and rolled beeswax candles. We then cut colorful wax designs to stick onto our candles. Each candle has ten designs to represent ten days before returning to school (after fall break). The idea is to burn through one design each “home day” to help track the passing time. Once all the designs have been burned through, it will be time to come back to school.
Have a wonderful break everyone!
