We were so happy to be reunited this morning!
In the park, we found giant piles of leaves to jump into! It was so much fun!! We pretended the leaf pile was a swimming pool and took turns “splashing” around. We also had fun running through the waist-high leaves trying to tackle each other :)
After lunch, we spotted something far away that looked like a “big yellow rug” under a tree. So we adventured across the meadow, over the secret bridge, and along the pathway until we reached the tree. It turns out, the yellow rug was a thick blanket of golden ginkgo leaves! We had a leaf party — throwing fistfuls of leaves into the air (and also stuffing them in Deidre’s hood). We talked about how ginkgos are one of the oldest living trees and how they were around when the dinosaurs walked the earth. It was difficult for us to grasp how old that is, but liked thinking about dinosaurs in Tower Grove Park.
The ginkgo tree was near the horses, so we visited them next. One of the horses peed and we thought that was wild! Then we explored the dry creek bed, pretended the drinking fountain was a car, and played our favorite game, “Mommy Mommy” in the pine forest.
On our walk back to school, we noticed how the trees have changed since the last time we were all together. We also pointed out squirrel nests in the trees.
After rest, Ridley and Rigel built a museum, train station, and two-story house out of blocks and train tracks. Autumn and Sylvie worked on an inch-worm craft. Then, we all played together at the doll house — creating beds for all of the people and animals.
We ended the day with some dancing, phonemic awareness work, and a read aloud of a new story called Bella’s Fall Coat. We decided that if we got a new coat that had deep pockets like Bella’s, we’d hope to find apple pie and acorns in the pockets :)
