We spent the morning exploring some new materials in the classroom. Rigel had lots of fun making shapes on the geoboard — “I made three squares, two triangles and lots of lines.”
In the park, our shape theme continued :) We asked Deidre to draw lots of different shapes on the ground as part of our obstacle course. Then, we invented a game where one of us calls out a shape and everyone else has to run to that shape. Sometimes, triangle and rectangle are a bit tricky to remember, but we’ll learn their names with time.
After playing on our obstacle course, we collected leaves for our leaf print activity. Then, we used markers to color the backs of leaves and printed them onto the paper. The prints helped us to see the veins in the leaves, which are kinda like the veins in our arms.
The best part of the day was when Joni visited us in the pine forest! She’s so silly and sang two new songs with us. She also taught us how to play Simon Says :) We told her all about the things we did over the weekend and showed her how to share gratitude before we eating lunch. She said she was grateful to be at the park with us and that made us smile!
After rest, we listened to a story about a moth and a butterfly who were friends, even though they had lots of differences. Moth slept during the day and butterfly slept at night. Moth liked the shade and butterfly liked the sun. The story sparked a conversation about the things we have in common as well as our differences. We also talked about how we can still be friends (even great friends) despite our differences. We’ll continue to explore this topic in the coming weeks :)
At the very end of the day, Ridley found our first chicken egg in the coop!!! It was very exciting. He said, “I’m hugging the egg because I’m so happy.” We look forward to checking the coop tomorrow for another egg and then deciding what food/dish we’d like to prepare with the eggs.
We really missed Sylvie today and look forward to her return to school!
