Today we traced over our faded obstacle course with chalk to bring it back to life. Ridley pretended to be a spider hanging from his web and Sylvie drew a pink fly that got caught in the web. We all talked about whether or not we would eat the spider right away or wrap it in silk thread and save it for later :) Ever since we found a spiderweb in our favorite climbing tree, we’ve been pretty fascinated with spiders!
After completing the obstacle course many times and listening to a story called Are You A Spider, we splashed around in the creek. Rigel taught Ridley how to make a bridge with his body and we had lots of fun going under their bridges. We also climbed the bridge railing and even figured out how to balance on the very top!
In the pine forest, we spotted a praying mantis climbing up one of the trees. It was very exciting! “Shhhhh! We have to whisper so we don’t scare the praying mantis!” We watched and watched as it climbed higher and higher. Rigel used binoculars to try and get a closer look. We all shared ideas for how to get the praying mantis down — “I have a plan! We need to use this play dough to make boards that go up the trunk. Then we can climb up them.” “I have an idea. We should call the praying mantis and ask him to come down. Hello praying mantis - will you please come down now?” “Praying mantises can’t talk!” This went on for a very long time :)
After rest, we went outside and made slime! We all wanted a different color, so we used a voting process to settle on green. Then, we mixed the slime with water beads and had so much fun squishing everything between our fingers. Autumn wanted to add animals into the mix, so we did! We liked giving the animals baths and pretending the water beads were their food. We can’t wait to play in the sensory bins again tomorrow :)
